How each alternative compares
GL.iNet Mudi 4G LTE Travel Router
The GL.iNet Mudi 4G LTE Travel Router shifts focus from raw speed to data privacy and local storage. It includes a microSD card slot, allowing you to store files locally for offline access. The device measures 5.7 by 3.1 by 0.9 inches and weighs 10.1 ounces. This makes it slightly bulkier than the Tangxi USB dongle but still portable. You get enhanced security features suitable for sensitive work. If you prioritize data control over the simplest possible form factor, this model offers more utility. It sacrifices the tiny USB plug design for a dedicated router body with better management options.
Bewinner Portable 4G LTE Travel Router
The Bewinner Portable 4G LTE Travel Router is designed for global travelers with few devices. It features a small form factor and white color. Unlike the Tangxi, which is a simple USB dongle, this unit is a standalone battery-powered hotspot. This provides flexibility in placement without needing a USB port nearby. It is best for short trips where basic 4G speeds are sufficient. The device supports a SIM card slot for easy network switching. You give up the plug-and-play USB convenience for a self-contained unit. This choice suits those who need a lightweight solution for international travel outside the Americas.
NETGEAR Nighthawk M6 5G Wi-Fi 6 Mobile Hotspot
The NETGEAR Nighthawk M6 5G Wi-Fi 6 Mobile Hotspot offers significantly higher performance and device capacity. It supports Wi-Fi 6 and includes a 2.5G port for faster wired connections. The device is larger, measuring 4.14 by 4.14 by 0.85 inches, and weighs 1.28 pounds. It is not a USB dongle but a robust mobile router with a screen for visibility. It fits users who prioritize device capacity and network performance over portability and simplicity.
GOWENIC 4G LTE Mobile Router with Battery
The GOWENIC 4G LTE Mobile Router with Battery provides a lightweight, battery-powered solution for up to 10 devices. It shares the same user capacity as the Tangxi but offers independent power. This makes it suitable for outdoor travel and mobile work where USB power is unavailable. The device is designed for portability and ease of setup. You gain the flexibility of battery operation but lose the direct USB plug-and-play convenience. It is a practical choice for those prioritizing mobility over high-speed 5G connectivity. The GOWENIC suits users who need a reliable hotspot for outdoor activities or remote work locations.
Yoidesu 4G LTE USB Modem Router
The Yoidesu 4G LTE USB Modem Router is a direct competitor to the Tangxi in form factor. It is a white USB modem suitable for office or home use. Like the Tangxi, it connects via a USB port for power and data. It supports basic mobile internet for small groups of devices. This model is ideal for users who need a wired mobile internet connection in an office setting. You get a similar plug-and-play experience with a different color option. The Yoidesu fits those who require a simple, reliable USB hotspot for travel or office use where USB power is readily available.
GL.iNet Beryl AX Travel Router
The GL.iNet Beryl AX Travel Router focuses on secure networking with a 2.5G WAN port. It supports Wi-Fi 6 and runs OpenWrt, allowing for advanced customization. The device measures 4.7 by 3.2 by 1.3 inches and weighs 6.91 ounces. It is a blue travel router with a screen for management. Unlike the Tangxi USB dongle, this unit offers robust VPN capabilities for secure connections. You gain extensive control over your network but lose the compact USB form factor. It suits travelers who need to run a VPN server and client simultaneously. The Beryl AX is ideal for users prioritizing security and customization over simplicity.
